In the central California hills. A 10 acre plot of land, planted with
alfalfa and barley. There's a little house on it. Dusty in the morning
heat.

Out of the house comes a tall, gangly man in overhauls. He heads
directly for the rabbit hutches just around the corner of the house. Soon
he returns, petting a rabbit held in his arms.

At the front door appears a smaller, compact man, stretching. He takes
a deep breath and grins, wiping sleepy dirt out of his eye.

An old man with one hand comes loping up from the nearby barn. He's
been up for an hour already.

A shiny car arrives, and out steps a lovely woman with long black
hair. She grins and waves, and joins the men on the porch.

They go inside, where a doctor is just snapping shut his bag. A black
man pokes his legs experimentally out of bed. Once standing, he pivots
about at the waist. His face is full of wonder and relief. The rest clap
their hands as the man starts doing a jig.

The tall gangly man gently puts down the rabbit. It hops away.
