The Society of the Baguette
secretly spins out clones of Dali on a
regular basis in order to keep society interesting. The Dali entity
attracts controversy and generates revolution.
Unfortunately, there's been a mutation in the batch, and when the dish is
opened in 2280 for another go, a chaotic force is released. Ultimately
dubbed a "Dalinian Vortex", the force transmorgrifies ordinary things
into Dalinian objects.
To combat the Vortex, the scientists contact the last remaining Dali,
Dali-22, now in his 80's and confined to an amphibious electric wheelchair.
Dali, showing signs of senility, proposes various ridiculous methods of
containment a huge army of lobster soldiers in diving suits on
long-legged elephants, being only one example.
Ultimately, Dali proposes to unleash Gala-energy to neutralize it. But
Gala-energy seeks only Dali, and the two are united in a supernova of
light which consumes the aged Dali-clone.
In the end, there is no way to destroy the vortex. All the Dalis are gone
the cells and Dali-22 himself. The vortex settles down, but life
remains amusingly unpredictable.
Last line: "And one
day there will be a new generation...who never knew a
time when objects stayed the same from one moment to the next." THE END.
Roll credits.
